The Lost Age (Quick Start)

Watermarked PDF

The Lost Age is a TRPG of heroic fantasy set in the mythic Bronze Age land of Khem. Players take on the role of heroes beginning to build their legend. In The Lost Age, you fight your way through ancient tombs, discover lost temples for dead gods, and explore the lands dynamic culture and history.

The Lost Age quick start is powered by the TEN system. featuring:

  • Classless character progression featuring skills and character goals
  • Tactical combat with an action point system for precision and flexibility
  • Character traits, such as strength and acumen, are both a resource to spend and a location for attacks
  • A player-rolled D10 system, so GM’s can focus on crafting plots and encounters
  • Two spell systems: traditional, spell-based, spiritual magic and flexible elemental esoteric magic
  • Rules for advancing characters up to fourth level.

This quick start guide for The Lost Age includes a condensed rulebook, six pre-generated characters, character-specific quick reference sheets, a regon map, and a pre-made adventure to get you started.

These quick start rules are a prelude to a Kickstarter campaign to produce a full core rulebook. Please direct all feedback to

Nonstandard fantasy setting? Decent art? Count me in for that kickstarter.

So that I´m clear on this "minor" detail. When you say "A player-rolled D10 system, so GM’s can focus on crafting plots and encounters" does it mean that this is yet another Diceless GM system, where each and every roll is made by players alone?

Hi Alexandre, thank you for your question. You are correct the GM does not need to roll dice. Instead the GM determines the target number for a task, players spend their resources for bonuses, and then roll a D10 to meet or beat the target number.
In playtesting this helped speed up combats and allowed GM's to focus on making set piece tactical encounters that utilized all of the tools at their disposal (like called shots, location based armor, and the various special abilities of the creatures), while players felt like they had "more control".

I hope that helps in determining if The Lost Age is right for you and your group.
Thanks for reaching out.

Being a Diceless GM this definitely ain´t for me, either as a GM or as a Player, as I see no benefit from either perspective.

Thank you for the clarification though.

That's a bummer Alexandre. I had the pleasure of playing this twice and I had not realized that the GM did not roll dice until I saw your question. Thinking back on the combats and interactions with NPC's they felt just as fair and fluid as they would in a game where dice were rolled. I don't expect my experiences to change your mind, exactly, but I do hope not having the GM roll dice in an interesting setting doesn't stop you from giving a game a try in the future.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
