Veins of the Earth
Publisher: Lamentations of the Flame Princess

I purchased this product simply for the monsters, which I had heard were all very original. I would agree that many of them are, and I definitely found a number of very interesting things which I can either build off of or use in a game of my own. However, I besides the gripes some may have about the art (I don't really care for it, but it isn't extremely important. I get the idea of what the monster is) the problem I found with many of them was the heavy meta-narrative tied to them, as well as many descriptions used relying on modern equivalents. To me, these sorts of things would be very immersion breaking to a group, telling them in a Medieval fantasy game that "the monster sounds like a car engine that just won't turn over no matter how many times you turn the key" and so on.

I also personally didn't care much for the general prose of the writing, but again, that is a personal sort of thing. I would say that these sorts of things can work for the right group, but that I do have such a group.

Houses of the Blooded

I feel that there is a lot here that can make a good game. I really enjoyed the fact that the system is collaborative in its own way, with ways for players to interact with and help create the narrative. The downside, I feel, is the large amounts of flowery language, which can at times make it difficult read through. Even if I never play a game in this system itself, I think that it has taught me some very important things that I can utilize for a more immersive game system.

Feats of Heroism: 36 New Feats for 5th Edition
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild

There are definitely a lot of options presented here (almost as if there were 36!), and there is a lot of them that are fairly inventive. With a selection like this, you can't really complain, as you can ignore the ones that you don't like. However, I feel like there may be a few too many options presented here that emulate class features. As an example, the wildshape one is a bit odd to me, and gives players options that the Druid doesn't even have until later levels (turning into flying creatures). Some of the crafting feats also, if I'm not wrong (which I very well could be) are unnecessary, as a player can already craft those items during downtime without the need of a feat.

There is a great number of options that seem to be well underpowered for a feat, or don't provide much to a player. Those ones almost seem like the old style of feats which would follow the normal progression for gaining feats, and not the way that 5e does it. I personally dislike feats in 5e having prerequisites for other feats, but maybe that's just me.

DW2 Island of Fire Mountain
Publisher: Chthonstone Games

I ran this for some friends a while back, and I don't know if this is somehow a normal thing for Dungeon World or not, but the formatting for this was extremely difficult to understand, and made referencing for information very hard for me to do. The adventure itself has a lot of interesting elements to it, and I liked the ideas presented within. I just wish it had been easier to figure out how to present and how to find the information that was laid within.

Monk Subclass - The Kensei (5e)
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild
by Alex R. [Verified Purchaser]

As far as I can tell, this subclass is fairly balanced, and I enjoy the flavor of it. However, I don't like how it takes away the major thing that makes a monk unique, which is their unarmed attacks. There is no longer a purpose to punch or kick someone when you could have a +X sword in place of it. You basically become an unarmored Fighter at that point.

2 Ranger Archetypes - The Blade Dancer and the Sharpshooter
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild
by Alex R. [Verified Purchaser]

The problem I'm having with this is that it doesn't fit with normal 5e conventions at all. Gaining a specific feat from the class, breaking the rules for dual wielding, providing small bonuses to things besides AC, and confering a ton of different bonuses that aren't necessarily attached to each other. Overall, it seems overpowered as well.

Bard - College of Cooking
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild
by Alex R. [Verified Purchaser]

No pun intended, but I really love the flavor of this class. While I'm not entirely sure how it stacks up in power compared to the other Bard colleges, I think that this is definitely playable. My only issue is that the improved weapons chart is kind of clunky to me, and perhaps could be simplified in options. As-is, the tools don't really offer any power bonus to the class from what I can tell.

Overall, good work.
