Be careful. The advertising on this product is slightly misrepresentative. It claims that you do not need the core XCrawl rulebook to play and that a nice introduction is given to players new to the world of XCrawl. This is a pretty gross overstatement, unless you consider a list of common terms less than two pages long an introduction. No history of the world is given, none of the rules related to mojo and face, etc.

Having said that, this looks like a decent module for the XCrawl line. I was just hoping to replace some of the best bits of the XCrawl rulebook, which I loaned to a friend some time ago and haven't seen since. The actual XCrawl rulebook can be bought at RPGNow (but I'm pretty sure it was written for D&D 3.0).<br><br> <b>LIKED</b>: Decent layout. Fully featured module. Acceptable art.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: Misrepresented in its advertising and cover blurbs.<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Very Good<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Disappointed<br>

Xcrawl: Necromerica by Goodman Games is a 56 page adventure for 7th level characters set within the Xcrawl Campaign Setting. The adventure is written by Brendan J. LaSalle and is designed to be a new adventure for Xcrawl or a module that could be used to introduce players to the Xcrawl universe. The PDF is fully bookmarked, but contains only a screen version (while a print-friendly version would have been appreciated).

The module contains pregenerated characters for pick-up and go play. It contains five pages of introduction which provide background to the adventure, information on scaling, explanations of what Xcrawl is and what common terms will be found within this adventure, an encounter table listing all challenges (like is done in Dungeon Crawl Classics) and notes on the physical description of the Necromerica dungeon.

The plot of the module is pretty simple and straightforward, the party has agreed to participate in a new dungeon tournament designed by first time Dungeon Judge (DJ) Creature Feature. The dungeon is in Indianapolis Sports Complex and is divided into three levels with a total of 50+ encounter areas. Each of the levels is separated so that after one leg of the competition is completed the competitors have three days to rest, recoup and sign endorsement contracts. For those unfamiliar with Xcrawl, Xcrawl is

?Total mayhem, that?s what. The players are superstar athletes taking their chances in a live-on-pay-per-view death sport called Xcrawl. Xcrawl is short for Extreme Dungeon Crawl.?

Since there is a definite ?feel? to the Xcrawl CS, the module has fully scripted box text for the major NPCs to make it easier on a new Xcrawl gamesmaster. Major encounters are usually prefaced by Creature Feature, the DJ, appearing in costume on one of the AVS (arcane video screens) to taunt the party and enlighten the studio and at home audience about the dangers ahead. The module is more than a simply dungeon crawl because characters can be rewarded for playing to the crowd, roleplaying opportunities with many of the non-combatants found in the dungeon, and many challenges that are easier for a ?thinking? party.

Some of my favourite things include:

Zombies with smiley face masks. Cows wearing sombreros. Dance, Dance Revolution Competitions. Sphinxes making competitors to pick a door any door (but watch out for the secret word).

The adventure closes with pregens, two feats, new equipment, a spell, several magic items and a new monster race.

This was my first foray into the world of Xcrawl, but it won?t my last. I need to go find some competitors to make a run through this module. <br><br> <b>LIKED</b>: Another quality product from Goodman Games. I appreciate knowing that some I will be able to say, "You know, if someone had taken ranks in Perform (Dance) then maybe you wouldn't have been eaten by that Megaraptor" Detailed script for NPCs that provides for an immersive experience that holds the "feel" of PCs as superstar athletes very well.<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Excellent<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Very Satisfied<br>
