Good book, but PDF is currently missing the Outlands map. You'll have to Google it.

Also no legitimate way of getting audio files it seems.

I haven't actually read through this product, but I wanted future buyers to be aware of the following link:

http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=dnd/dx20010914a

These are the actual 'tracks' to the CD that came with this guide.

This link still works (Feb 12, 2014) if you delete the \"-\" at the end of the URL. http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=dnd/dx20010914a Thanks Phil!

Good product. The outlands always needed more detail, far as I was concerned.

Just remember to go and download the audio tracks that should have come in the zip file from Wizards of the Coast's website.<br><br> <b>LIKED</b>: Lots of detail on the Outlands is nice.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: The total lack of the CD tracks! (Visit the Wizards of the Coast website; they've got the tracks for free download, but it took alot of searching to find them. Sorry I don't remember the URL)<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Disappointing<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Satisfied<br>

A decent collection for the price. I will say that I'm glad I didn't spend whatever the cover price might have been for it. It's not that what's here is bad because it actually has some wonderful information; there's just not enough of it. The book is only about 40 pages and doesn't elaborate on some of the Outlands sights mentioned in the original Planescape box set. Also, the cd tracks aren't included in the download. You can get them from Wizards of the Coast on their website (I had to do a search for it though because I couldn't find it listed in their archives). The cd tracks are a decidedly mixed bag. You can see that they were trying to give players a taste of life on the Outlands but mediocre voice actors and forced dialogue ruin the experience whenever you get a "first hand account." To be honest, the map is probably the best part of the book. I just wish there was a little more detail for the subjects the book covers.

Format: Acceptable. direct scan - to - pdf of a new - quality original. Aside from a minimal four bookmarks, there is no other non - bitmap - type information.

Text and illustration: OK. Mostly easy to read. Some of the text is in orange and does not print well at all, though it is readable on the computer screen.

Language: Rather terse and short, shifting between proper english and cant (the dialect spoken in the fictional town of Sigil). You may need to get the Planewalkers Handbook for the dictionary of cant terms.

Content: Excellent. In addition to the descriptions of the major towns in the outlands and a brief guide to traveling in this very strange universe, there are several beutiful maps, including a huge map that must be printed and taped together from eight pages. Again, it helps to have the Planewalker's Handbook as well.

I was VERY disappointed to find that the download did not include a copy of the CD that was included in the original and even more so that the product description did not state that.

However, a quick search on google for primer outlands cd revealed that the tracks can be downloaded from the Wizards website ... so now I dont feel angry, just cheated.

That said the content of the book is like all other Planescape stuff I have seen to date - i.e. excellent - hence the rating of 3 and not a lower one.
