Cool, well-conceived adventure for 5E that introduces some new monsters and makes for a substantial side adventure to a campaign. The underlying plot of the Glitterdoom could be expanded into a greater storyline in a campaign if desired.

I loved running this as a one-shot. Superbly written. After one read through I felt like I could sit down and run it - everything I needed was included, including all stat blocks. The combats and environment features were dynamic and fun. The story was well thought out and everything in the dungeon made sense. The loot the players picked up in game was useful (and again made sense for it to be there story wise) - which is great for one-shots. The dungeon as written ran almost exactly 4 hours. My game went longer because I added a tavern scene at the beginning. Highly recommend.

I have all of the 5e fantasy modules and this is the third I've run. Like the others it takes just a bit longer than one session (if you're playing only three or four hours). I fit this story into Faerun (put it in the Giant's Run mountains, changed the evil dwarf god to Abatthor) as a way to start a Faerun campaign. I nerfed the hit points a bit for some of the villains to make this useable with first level characters.

I like the idea of exhaustian levels in addition to normal damage.

All around good adventure.

I had posted this review in the discussion section, because I wasn't able to review it until I had purchased the PDF (I had purchased the physical copy at a local game store). The module includes a code to download a PDF, but the code was expired. Goodman Games sent a valid code to me, so I can now post my review here!

I read through this entire adventure tonight. It is fairly short. The book is 16 pages with 11 of those being the background + adventure, 1 page of monster stats (there are a few additional monster stats included in the adventure pages), 2 pages of "concluding the adventure," new sub-race, and a new background, then 1 page of maps.

There are a few things that I really like about this adventure. First, it is a mini dungeon crawl. However, not every room has an encounter. In fact, maybe only 1/3 of the rooms have encounters. However, all rooms have descriptions and elements of interest. I tire of crawls where every room has an encounter. Second, I like how the encounters include descriptions of how the creatures will approach the combat. The DM is obviously free to change this, but it is nice to have this included. Third, even though this is a mini adventure, it feels that the author(s) put quite a bit of thought into it.

I am most likely going to modify this a bit and include it as a side adventure in Out of the Abyss. I don't think it'll take much to adapt it.

With Wizards of the Coast only selling us campaigns at this time, we are left with companies like Goodman Games for modules and that is just fine because they have done an excellent job.

Glitterdoom has it all, an engaging backstory, a useful hook, new monsters, traps and magic items and more. This module could be run from hook to end boss in a long game night or better over two sessions.

The bulk of a module such as this are the area descriptions. They are well labeled and described. The italicized for-the-players section is right-sized and descriptive. The for-the-DM section is also right-sized and contains everything you need to know to run this module.

Black and white drawings are placed throughout the book to give you a good amount of flavor of this dungeon crawl and its denizens. A full page map of the dungeon is at the end.

I had bought this one just to read but already digested it for running and have pitched my players the hook. We are going to the Knuckle on our next game night.

All in all this was a good piece. I didn't cross check the publisher date with the official release of 5e, but I did notice one rule discrepancy. The spells for the final NPC were set up like previous versions would have done.

Other than that, I would have liked to see a better accounting of time. Where Okkar's timeline fits in with the fall of the Knuckle and Steelhand Hall, exactly how many years has passed, etc. Because of that deficit, it makes it difficult to rationalize some things like how there are working crossbows still in one guardroom, how long ago all the ore was gone, and thereby what have the greed grubs been living on (unless they are actually undead), etc.

My players enjoyed the module, and picked up on the hook to continue helping Okkar by traveling to Steelhand Hall.

Pretty solid to me! Interesting monsters (e.g. dwarf skeletons with petrifying touches), an interesting nomadic dwarf sub-race, and an interesting new background (refugee). Worth the buy!
